Contrary to popular opinion, the book of Revelation was not written by John to give us a detailed preview of the future. Instead, it was written to affirm everything God had already promised about the future. John wasn’t inventing a new timeline. Instead, he was drawing on the Old Testament promises God had already made: that He would right every wrong, destroy evil, and make all things new.  

John wrote Revelation to encourage and strengthen and empower the church, to stand firm, hold on to their faith and be bold in their witness. Why? Because Jesus, the Judge of all the earth, will indeed right every wrong, destroy all evil, and make all things new—and you won’t want to miss it!
